Apropos

Apropos is a collection of experimental short fiction, by means of content and design. The collection contains six short pieces, each taking a different approach to storytelling.

"Thoughts to Keep You Company" is a "side-by-side" piece where two different points of view run down the page in two columns. A third point of view creates full page breaks. Two daughters tackle the question of how to take care of their aging, deaf father.

"Sudoku" is the most traditional of the pieces. A introverted teenage girl examines her twin's and her own very different lives.

"The Conversation That Passed Between Chad and Lucas" is a "footnote" piece. Half a dozen lines of dialogue comprise the "story" followed by several pages of footnotes which flesh out the intricacies of the short dialogue.

"The Evening Party" is a "journey" piece. Jack is relatively new to New York City. His old college friends throw a party at his apartment for him to meet new people, especially local women. Jack isn't interested in the affair nor the guests; however, he will encounter a diverse and curious group of people before the night is over.

"Home Owners" consists of three different points of view, written in three different times: 1st person plural - future; 2nd person singular - present; and 1st person singular - past. Suburbia--quiet and idealistic; however, there is always that one neighbor who is out of place. Three different households take to spying on their neighbor and his late night ritual.

"Apropos" lives up to to its name... an appropriate title for a story that is by no means a conventional piece. To be short, "Apropos" dances about form and content, commenting on the art of writing, illustrated by play script, music, car owner manuals... A challenge to follow, but all should take something away from it.

Apropos is available for purchase in its first edition run for $16.00 plus tax. Shipping included.
